Radio Fairfax - Listen Live!
Carrickfergus by Joan Baez

Fairfax Public Access will be CLOSED through April 15 with great possibility that the closure will extend beyond April 15. This measure is being taken, after thoughtful, serious and deliberate consideration, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and our desire to protect the health and safety of our members, guests and staff.

During this period, our building and production facilities will be closed to our members and the public. Consequently, our studios, editing facilities and field production equipment will not be available to our members. Training classes during April have been cancelled, and we are in the process of providing necessary class refunds to members who had registered for April classes.

As stated in my email of March 15, we do not take the decision to close our facilities to our members lightly. Prior to making the decision to close our building to our members, I reached out to the executive directors of Montgomery Community Media, Arlington Independent Media and DCTV, in order to explore how these neighboring public access centers were dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic -- all have closed their buildings to their members and the public. I have also been in contact with local government staff and elected officials, who have voiced support for our decision to close our facility.

Naturally, we do not take the closure of our building to you, our members, lightly. Our desire is to fully provide and make available our public access television and radio services to our members. However, we also recognize the vital importance of protecting our members' safety. As noted above, it is this concern for the safety and well-being of our members that motivated our decision to mirror the County Government's closures in response to COVID-19.

We will provide further updates as time goes on.

Best regards,

Chuck Peña
