TRAINING:

Classes: Beginning

This class will provide theoretical and hands on training specifically designed for the operation of Studio Cameras, the TV Studio Audio Board and related audio components. The objective of this class is to allow students to become proficient enough to volunteer as Camera person and Audio/ soundboard operators on any FPA show. At the completion of the class and volunteer requirement, you will be certified to volunteer as Camera-person in Studios A, B and as Audio Board Operators in Studios A, B & C.

This course is a prerequisite for most TV Production classes; punctuality for this 3 hr class time is mandatory for certification. Late comers will be required to register for the next upcoming class.

Prerequisite: Orientation
1 session: 3 hours
Certification requires the completion of Volunteering on 1 FPA show.
Min students: 5, Max. students: 8
Producing in a studio and/or out in the field requires precise planning, smooth execution of the plan, firm understanding of the rules and regulations, tireless promotion of the project and plenty of character. Learn the tricks in this course and become a successful FPA Studio and Field producer. No equipment certification.
Prerequisite:
Production Assistant.
One session of 3 hours (no volunteer requirements).

CG Deko for Beginners &Teleprompter class focuses on the very basic practical application in character generators using Avid Deko 1000. In this class students will learn how to create a custom looking Template for their program using Style & Color, Title & Typeface and learn how to create a Sequence.
This class also incorporates the Teleprompter usage where you will learn how to enter, save, size and scroll script information for On Air personality.

Pre-requisite: Orientation & prior experience with basic Windows concepts is expected

2 sessions: 2 hours each
Certification requires the completion of 1 volunteer CG assignment.

Min students: 3 Max students: 5

This twice a week three hours class of three sessions will train you to get hands-on training and become FPA certified in the Panasonic DVX 100B & DVC Pro cameras. You can also bring in your home video camcorder and learn the proper camera fundamentals and techniques to capture great footage. No prior television or video production experience is necessary. By the end of this course, you will have developed a familiarity in video and feel at ease with handy-cams. After completion of the class you will become FPA Certified in the use of the Panasonic DVX 100B &* *DVC Pro camera*s *including the Field Equipment.

Required: 1 mini DV and 1 DVC Pro tape
4 sessions: 3 hours each.
Certification requires the completion of class project.
Min students: 3, Max students: 6

Basic Edit covers practical approaches in capturing the best possible footage and the camera applications required to lay down the best foundation for editing.  It's all in the look of your show.  So don't miss out on the A, B, C's and 1, 2, 3's of editing.  The class teaches useful procedures to the edit process, the equipment function/purpose and its proper usage to give the students a solid foundation in all areas of linear edit.

If you are just getting started recording digital audio, Audacity is a FREE software program that will let you get up and running quickly. This class uses the FREE Audacity 1.3.4 Beta Version for Windows. In this 3 hr audio editing workshop, you will learn to develop your audio creativity by recording, editing, and mixing music, voice, and sound effects with the easy to use graphic multi track editor. You will also learn how to apply special effects such as reverb, echo, and frequency equalization. At the end of the workshop, you will be familiar with mixing different sounds into a coherent, listenable product.

Students may use their own laptops if they install the FREE Audacity 1.3.4 Beta Version for Windows. Students will require an external storage device such as a memory stick which holds at least 10 Mega Bytes free space or any other external drive or USB to develop a class project.

Prerequisite:
Orientation and an understanding of PC’s and Windows.
